Given the situation in Ukraine, Millennium Bank decided to grant two additional, special awards.
On May 19, at the Teatr Studio in Warsaw, the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival awards ceremony took place.
During the opening ceremony, the artistic director of the festival, Karol Piekarczyk emphasized the importance of this decision: This year, a month before the festival, we were invited to join a special group of festivals that are members of the European Film Academy. As a result, films shown and awarded at our festival have an incredible opportunity to compete for the European Film Awards. What is more, Millennium Docs Against Gravity can recommend films to be nominated for these awards.
The 19th edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity kicks off May 13 running to May 22, before heading online May 24 to June 5. The festival has numerous epicentres, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdynia, Poznan, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, Lublin and now – as of 2022 – the film city of Łódź.

The climate crisis is also a humanitarian crisis. Every year, millions of people are forced to flee their homes due to increasingly frequent disasters, such as floods, cyclones, droughts and forest fires. In 2020 alone, 30,7 million people were internally displaced because of disasters – accounting for over 75% of the people estimated to have been internally displaced that year. By 2050, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance every year could rise to over 200 million.
